PETER WHITE | new work
There is a language which goes beyond words in Peter White's work. His boats, books, bowls and bottles capture both the tangibility and transience of life. Peter White’s work is always physical, touchable in the way rocks and moss are tactile and inviting, and at the same time his work is part of less physical planes. A Peter White flower or landscape materialises or dematerialises as we look at them, and that makes us look harder, at the textured paint surface, the lights and darks which occasionally halo an object; and we look at the depth of the colours too. His tones are from the mountains White walks in. Every paintings takes us to a new place and this is exactly what the best paintings should do.
This exhibition includes two large works: a boat and a book, and a selection of smaller paintings. We also have two ‘collections,’ a new triptych of drawings White has been experimenting with.
