Overview
Christopher Wood is one of the finest abstracted painters of the sea you can find anywhere. They are never a specific place, a view, because each painting is returned to and savoured so many times they become many places. Each time they are returned to, Wood enriches them; balancing their form and colour and adding a layer of time-experienced depth. His day begins with a walk along the North Sea coast, with his dog, and this ritual is where he absorbs his elemental muses which are felt as much as seen in his work. The results are remarkable, polygeographic, with every sea, rain and shore becoming universal. Abstracted work is most powerful when it is recognisable everywhere. Wood is one of the most sophisticated and powerful painters in Scotland and it is a great honour to exhibit these fourteen new works.
