CHRISTOPHER WOOD | Ancient Songs: An Exhibition of New Paintings

14 March - 12 April 2025
Overview

Christopher Wood's paintings achieve something remarkable. There are colours and moments of paint, and abstract marks and textures that coalesce into a recognisable instant and a shared glimpse of truth with the artist. It might be a breathing sea, a cliff revealing ancient reds or the smell of scurvygrass as the tide recedes. Painting at its best is like a poem. It is mysterious, recognisable and rhythmic – and most of all, it connects us to a bigger world.

These latest twenty paintings do all this and more, and they reveal an artist in full power. These works are paintings which endure beyond the first gaze. They are paintings that will sing their ancient song to the end.
